Virtual Machine vs Amazon Web Services

What are the advantages of using AWS over running the vm on my pc? I don't have a credit card but I could get someone to put theirs to it for me if it'd be worth it.

I already know my way around virtual machines but AWS would be completely new to me.

Like @rseiter, I think this is a great opportunity to get to grips with AWS (which can only be a good idea if you intend to put the things you learn in the SaaS class to use later).

Also, my computer is a mini-PC which is fine for most tasks but has trouble running VMs with decent performance, whereas I have a very good internet connection.
