Are you running some sort of javascript blocker? I often get problems because of mine.

AI class site also didn't work with Opera, I had to use Firefox. Their focus is on supporting Chrome, Firefox and IE9+, so I would choose one of those.

You should report it on the Udacity forum. The Announcements page says:

Known Issue with Internet Explorer 8

andy brown - 01:42:32 AM Feb 21, 2012

Currently the development environment, among other things on the site, does not support Internet Explorer 8. The engineering team is working hard to work out the bugs. Until then, we recommend using either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer 9.

I think this means they're trying to fix the site for cross browser compatibility, but to do that they need feedback.

If anyone is having problems with the Python code editor in Opera, it is a problem with Ace. The fix would be simple. Have a look at my answer: http://www.udacity-forums.com/cs101/questions/274/opera-problem-with-ide/45744
